Emotion Wise Counselling Graduate Internship Program
Duration: September 2026-May 2027

About Us:

We are a private practice with a focus on supporting people with complex trauma and emotion regulation issues using evidence based practices including, but not limited to DBT and EMDR. We value authenticity, integrity and learning and growth.  We run trauma-informed DBT groups and most of our counsellors are trained in EMDR therapy.

About the Internship

This internship provides an experience in private practice counselling for people wanting to focus on clinically working with people with complex trauma therapeutically with evidence based practices and intend on pursing private practice post graduation.  We work in-person in Vancouver and virtually.

Supervision is provided by April Griffin MSW RSW RCC, an experienced trauma therapist and DBT-informed therapist.

It is expected that the student will see between 6-10 clients per week and co-facilitate 2 hours of DBT-informed group therapy per week, and attend a DBT consultation group weekly.

We cannot guarantee client hours and the intern may be seeing less clients than those projected hours as they build a caseload, or dependent on referral flow.

As a part of the internship the intern will be asked to take training DBT at their own cost, preferably at the DBT Centre of Vancouver, but other options are also acceptable.  They will also be encouraged to take EMDR training at their own cost in order to provide trauma therapy counselling.

The intern will receive 1 hour of individual supervision weekly and one hour of group supervision. The Intern may be supervised by another therapist for group therapy (RCC or RSW).

Please note: It is not guaranteed that all direct supervised hours needing to be eligible for the BCACC registration will be completed during this internship.  The intern may require further post-practicum supervision to complete these hours.

The intern will be asked to record sessions with clients’ consent and permission and present in individual supervision.
