I am a registered social worker (RSW BSW) and a graduate student in the Masters of Social Work program at University of British Columbia (2024). I am doing my internship at Emotion Wise Counselling from September 2023-April 2024.
In the last ten years, I have worked as a mental health worker and crisis counsellor alongside people with severe and persistent mental illness and substance use, people with anxiety and mood disorders and in situational crises. I have also worked as a hospital social worker providing adjustment, grief and loss support to family, caregivers, and critical illness survivors. These years of social work practice helped me to consolidate my dream of not only becoming a social worker, but also a mental health counsellor.
My practice comes from a holistic, strength based, cultural humility, and trauma-informed care approach. My goal is to support and empower people in their healing journey.
I have training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) Certificate Level 2 with the Association of Psychological Therapies, Foundations for Motivational Interviewing, and Trauma, Dissociation, and Psychosis: Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Other Approaches to Understanding and Recovery.
Before moving to Canada, I had the privilege to live and work in three different countries; the experiences lived in each country taught me how rich and meaningful each culture is, and how important culture is in a healing process.
I am originally from Brazil, so you can choose to talk to me in Portuguese or in English.
When I am not writing papers or attending classes, I love to cuddle with my two Chihuahuas while watching Netflix or listening to music.
